| Ball State University The Capavillion project was a four-week experiment with small-scale
urban design within the confines of Ball State's campus.
The site for the project would be located on the McKinley side of the Architecture and
Urban Planning building. Functionally, this small building would serve to illustrate
design works within the architecture discipline, thus stimulating interest in the
architecture programs and promoting campus life as well.
As a small-scale project, I believed that the essence of
this particular building lies in the manipulation of one or two main design concepts. An
inverted curve, carefully detailed with glass, provides clear views into the building and
serves to attract pedestrian traffic. To further stimulate campus interest, I projected
two walls vertically higher than the rest of the building (for better visual reference)
and attached two curved mechanical screens, that served as an information kiosk. The
building would be fleshed in Indiana limestone and brick to create a harmonious
relationship with the rest of the campus.
